    How billable days are calculated
    • Pickup and drop-off days are free.
    • Saturday and Sunday together count as 1 day.
    • 7 nights bills as 3 days. 30 nights bills as 10 days.
    • Longer rentals stack those rates, so you're never charged more than 3 days per week.
Thanks — your request is in. We'll follow up by email with a quote, usually same day.

    Process

    How to Rent

Four steps from browsing to pickup.

    STEP 1

    Browse

Look through the Equipment gallery and build your list. Then send it our way — the "Rent Now" button is fastest, or email rentals@twelvespies.com. Include your pickup and drop-off dates.

    STEP 2

    Quote

We'll respond with a quote for your gear and dates. A quote isn't a reservation yet.

    STEP 3

    Paperwork

Three things lock in a booking:

    • The New Customer Form, including ID and background check
    • A valid COI matching the renter or production name — see Insurance for details
    • A signed rental agreement (sent via DocuSign after the form and COI have been sent)
    STEP 4

    Pick Up

Once everything's signed, you're set. We aim for pickups after 2pm and drop-offs before 12pm, but let us know if you need something outside that window — usually workable depending on availability.

    Insurance Q&A

Answers to the coverage questions we get most before a first booking.

Do I need insurance in order to rent?+
Yes. Every renter needs a valid COI covering the full value of the rented equipment, plus general liability. If you don't have insurance, booking through ShareGrid is an option.
Are there any insurance brokers' policies you don't accept?+
Yes — we don't accept policies from Thimble.
What sort of policy do I need to get?+
A policy that covers rented production equipment is called an "Inland Marine" policy.
How much does the policy need to cover?+
The full replacement value of everything you're renting for the production — not just from us. For example, if you rent $10,000 in gear from us and $5,000 from another rental house, your policy needs to cover $15,000 total.
Where can I get rented production equipment insurance?+
Not every broker offers Inland Marine coverage. If you already have a general liability policy, ask your broker if they offer a short-term Inland Marine add-on. If not, Athos Insurance offers both short-term and annual policies.
I bought an Inland Marine policy — now what?+
Have your broker issue us a COI (Certificate of Insurance) — this is different from the Proof of Insurance you get after purchasing. The COI needs to name Twelve Spies Rentals as "loss payee," with our name and address listed under the certificate holder section.

    FAQ

Answers to what renters ask most.

    Do you deliver?+
Yes. Our delivery fee is $60 base for any delivery within 5 miles of our location, plus $10 for every 5 additional miles (12 miles away = $80). The fee is per trip, so if you also need pickup service that's an additional charge.
Do I need insurance in order to rent?+
Yes. Every renter is required to provide a valid COI (Certificate of Insurance) that covers the entire value of the rented equipment, as well as general liability insurance. If you don't currently have a policy, you can easily get a short-term or annual one through our partner Athos — see the Insurance page.
    Are there multi-day discounts?+
Yes, we offer the industry standard discounts for multi-day bookings. Pickup and drop-off days are no charge. Weekends are billed as 1 day (pick up Friday afternoon, drop off Monday morning). Week-long rentals are billed for only 3 days if you rent gear for 6–7 days including pickup and drop-off. If you rent for 22–30 days, you'll only be charged for 10 days, again including pickup and drop-off.
    Do you do custom packages?+
Absolutely. Send us an email at rentals@twelvespies.com, or hit the Rent Now button and send us a message.
Can someone else pick up gear for me?+
Yes, but the person picking up the equipment will also need to submit identification information.
    Do you ship gear?+
    Not at this time.
    Can I extend a rental?+
Depending on the availability of the gear, yes. Reach out as soon as you know you need an extension and we'll let you know if it's possible.
    Do you offer any discounts?+
Yes. We offer a 5% discount to students and active or former military personnel with proper identification, and another 5% off your booking when you leave us a 5-star review on Google. The student and military discount applies only to rentals booked direct with Twelve Spies — anything booked through ShareGrid qualifies for the Google review discount only.
Do you have a referral program?+
Yes. If you refer someone and they book a package, you get 15% off your next booking. And if you refer 5 or more people or productions and they each book at least once, you get LIFETIME 15% off all bookings, until the end of time.
    About Us

    Your vision.
    Our gear.

A camera, lighting and grip rental house in North Hollywood — built around actually picking up the phone.

We rent camera, lens, lighting, grip, audio and monitoring packages to filmmakers and photographers across Los Angeles. Everything on this site is gear we own or look after ourselves — you're not booking against a listing that turns out to be someone else's kit two cities away.

Renting should be the easy part of a shoot. You tell us what you're shooting and when, we tell you what it costs and whether it's free. No account required, no membership, no waiting on a callback to find out a price.

    How we're different

The things renters tell us they notice.

    01

    Prices are on the page

Every item lists its day rate. Build a quote yourself and see the total before you talk to anyone.

    02

    Same-day pickup

If it's on the shelf and your paperwork is in order, you can book today and shoot today.

    03

    Insurance sorted

A COI is required, but if you don't have a policy our partner Athos can cover a single production or a whole year.

    04

    Fair billing

Pickup and drop-off days are free. A weekend counts as one day, a week as three, a month as ten.

    What we carry

Owner-operated, maintained in-house, and checked between every rental.
